Hughes keeping it on the DL

According to Marc Carig, Phil Hughes will be going to the disabled list with what is being called a “dead arm phase.” He will stay with the team and not be sent to Triple-A, as was reported earlier. The team wants him to do a lot of long toss but not make his next start.

It’s no secret that Hughes’ velocity just isn’t there this season, and I’m all for anything that helps bring it back. Get well soon, Philthy!

Hughes:

Something had to be done. My velocity’s just not there. My arm feels dead.

RHP Lance Pendleton is being called up and reports have surfaced that Cy Colon will be moved to the rotation in Phil’s absence.
