Colon, ManBan steal the show

The Yanks fell to the Red Sox, 5-3, tonight, but the story of the game was the pitching.

Bartolo Colon was impressive as hell, as he threw 42 pitches with 35 going for strikes. He maxed out at 93 mph and was consistently in the 89-to-low-90s range. The 37-year-old tossed three scoreless innings, fanned five and allowed two hits. I know it’s early in Spring Training, but this fatso looks like he could be the fourth or fifth starter. Wow. His work in Winter Ball must’ve really helped.

ManBan was equally stellar, as the 19-year-old worked out of a two-on jam and topped out at 96 mph. The kid threw two scoreless frames with three strikeouts, a walk and a hit. Damn, I can’t wait to see him develop.

According to YES Network’s Jack Curry, “Banuelos has as smooth a delivery as you will ever see. Great arm action.” Curry said that one scout told him, “It looks like he’s playing catch.”

Russell Martin, who caught for the first time this spring tonight, was also on ManBan’s jock, “I compare (ManBan) to Clayton Kershaw, or even more polished than Kershaw.” That’s good company.

The Yanks will take on the Nats tomorrow at 1:05.

LET’S GO YANKS!!!!!
