Yanks acquire OF Justin Maxwell

The Yanks acquired recently DFA’d outfielder Justin Maxwell from the Nats for righty Adam Olbrychowski. Maxwell will be the fifth OF behind Gardy, Grandy, Swish Dog and Andruw Jones. He’ll be taking time away from New CC and Greg Golson in the outfield.

He owns a .201/.319/.379 line and an 87 OPS+ in 260 MLB plate appearances. His numbers in just under 1,800 minor league plate appearances are better but nothing to write home about. He’s probably best known for this walk-off grand slam against the Mets in late ’09.

I’ve got a feeling Sterling’s home run call for him will be, “Justin Maxwell, he’s good to the last drop.” Or something to that extent.

In an effort to create room on the 40-man roster for Maxwell, the Yanks designated outfielder Jordan Parraz for assignment.
