Slow news day

AUTHOR: | IN: American League, News, Popular, Yankees | COMMENTS: None Yet

There hasn’t been much news for the past couple of days. There rarely is this time of year. It’s one of the main reasons why I hate winter…the other being the 18 inches of snow falling from the sky. Anywho, the biggest thing today is that the Yanks have shown interest in free agent closer Rafael Soriano. This comes as a big surprise to me because Soriano, who was with Tampa Bay last season, is used to closing and obviously he won’t be doing that with Mo around for the next couple of years. If he’s down with moving to [...]

A Penny for your thoughts…or rotation

AUTHOR: | IN: American League, Editorial, Popular, Video, Yankees | COMMENTS: 3 Comments

It’s no secret that the Yanks need a starting pitcher for the back end of their rotation (assuming Pettitte retires) and the pickens are slim for (free agent) starting pitchers, so why not take a long shot on Brad Penny? He made $7.5 million last season on a one-year deal with the Cards and didn’t pitch after May 21 due to a shoulder strain, so the Yanks could probably get him for dirt cheap. In 2010 he threw just 55 2/3 innings and put up a stellar 122 ERA+ with 0.6 HR/9, 1.5 BB/9, 5.7 SO/9, 3.89 SO/BB but also [...]

Manny will not be Manny in the Bronx next season

AUTHOR: | IN: American League, Editorial, News, Popular, Yankees | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

A few days after we heard rumblings of the Yanks bringing in old foe Manny Ramirez as an outfielder/DH, Buster Olney shoots down any possibility of that. I knew it was a long shot that the Yanks would sign Manny, but I still held out hope they would. Manuel Aristides Ramirez was one of two Red Sox I loved (no homo, not that there’s anything wrong with that), despite how much he killed the Yanks. It would’ve been something to see him rake in Yankee Stadium. I don’t know why I like him so much. I guess it’s because he [...]

Damon coming back to the Yanks?

AUTHOR: | IN: American League, Editorial, News, Popular, Video, Yankees | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

Although the notion was pretty much shot down today, it appears the Yanks had conversations with their former left fielder Johnny Damon about a possible reunion. I would love to see Damon back in pinstripes, but, as Cashman said today, there is no real role for him. The outfield is set and Jorge is going to be the DH. However, for the sake of killing time during the boring offseason let’s entertain this idea:

Yanks sign one of “Hank’s Yanks” and a jailbird

AUTHOR: | IN: Editorial, News, Popular, Yankees | COMMENTS: None Yet

The Yankees have signed 19-year-old righty Leonel Vinas to a minor-league deal. Vinas — out of Strong Island — was the ace of “Hank’s Yanks,” a NY youth baseball team sponsored by Hank Steinbrenner. NYY team vice president Billy Connors said of Vinas: He’s a tough kid. He was impressive throwing on the side. He pitched well for Hank’s Yanks. He just wanted an opportunity. I just want an opportunity too, Billy! Have you heard how well I can bunt? The team also signed 23-year-old lefty Steve Evarts, the 43rd pick — two spots after Joba — in the ’06 [...]

New develops in Pettittewatch 2011

AUTHOR: | IN: Editorial, News, Popular, Yankees | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

According to a person with “knowledge of Pettitte’s thinking,” there is little chance the lefty returns for the 2011 season. This omniscient bastard says there is a 30% chance Pettitte pitches next season and there is a “very real possibility he retires.” I call foul. I think this is just a move to gain leverage in potential contract negotiations. Pettitte knows that Cashman has been unable to land a big-name pitcher and is prepared to go with the current rotation of CC, AJ, Philthy, SuperNova and Sergio Mitre. If the 38-year-old plays hard to get with a team in dire [...]

Pedro Feliciano a GREAT move by Yanks

AUTHOR: | IN: Yankees | COMMENTS: None Yet

Dwight Gooden… David Cone… what do these two have in common, besides the inability to control some of their basest urges?   Both had great careers with the Mets, but went on to have the one shining moment of those careers in the Bronx.   Coney’s perfecto and Doc’s no-no were both perfect cappers to great careers. Well, add another very good Mets pitcher to the Yankees roster as Pedro Feliciano confirmed to ESPN that he’s indeed signing with the Yanks by saying “I think it was a good thing to stay in New York.  I mean, that’s the best city in [...]

I want to know Yankee fans feel about the team not signing Cliff Lee.
