Your AL Gold Glove winners...and Derek Jeter

I am the staunchest of Yankee fans, but even I have a problem with Derek Jeter winning a Gold Glove (the fifth of his career). I realize the award doesn’t mean much, it’s just a popularity contest and what not, but that probably just tacked on another $30 million and three years to Jeet’s upcoming contract.

Oh well, what can you do? Here are the rest of the 2010 Gold Glovers:

P: Mark Buehrle

C: Joe Mauer

1B: Tex

2B: Robbie Cano

3B: Evan Longoria

SS: Jeet

OF: Ichiro

OF: Carl Crawford

OF: Franklin Gutierrez

I don’t have as much of a problem with any of the other selections as I do with Jeet. I think Cano absolutely deserved it. Tex isn’t a bad choice. Buehrle probably just got it because of that play on Opening Day. Mauer’s not a bad pick. Longoria and Gutierrez are kind of iffy. You can’t argue with Ichiro, and Crawford is solid.

Tomorrow, the NL Gold Golve winners.
