Happy Halloween!!
Happy Halloween from Yanks Go Yard. I hope you all had a fun and safe weekend. Only 105 more days ’til pitchers and catchers report! LET’S GO YANKS!!!!
Mattingly botches game, is still the man
Managing the Phoenix Desert Dogs during an Arizona Fall League game in preparation for his first managerial stint with the Dodgers next season, Don Mattingly ran out of pitchers. I can’t say I’m surprised, but it is what it is. Let Aaron Gleeman, whose tone I didn’t care for, take it away because it’s too painful for me to explain. This is the third gaffe Hitman has made while at the helm of a ball club. The Dodgers batted out of order one time this past spring training during a split squad game he was in charge of, and he [...]
Stat of the day
The last time the Yankees won a World Series without winning another one within two years (backwards or forwards) was in 1932.
Girardi’s coming back, Mo two
It appears the binder is coming back. It is not yet official but the Yankees and manager Joe Girardi have agreed to a three-year, $9 million deal. I’m sure they don’t want to pull an A-Rod, so I’m guessing they are going to wait until the first World Series off day to announce the decision. As I’ve said before, I’m not a fan of Joe G and don’t want him back but there aren’t many better options out there. So we’ll have to make due. He is the winningest manager over the past three seasons, so I suppose I really [...]
Yanks Go Yard goes bitter
A tip of the ol’ cap goes out to the Rangers for beating the Yankees. I wish them well in this year’s Fall Classic.
Memories
Heads have already started to roll
Less than 72 hours after being sent packing by the Texas Rangers, the Yanks have started to make changes. The first casualty was pitching coach Dave Eiland, who was fired by GM Brian Cashman on Monday afternoon. Although Cash said that the reason was “private” and had “nothing to do with what took place in the playoffs,” you have to wonder why Eiland is gone. Technically he wasn’t “fired” in the true sense of the word, his contract was up and they decided no to re-sign him. However, one can’t help but think that the reason for going this route [...]
In case you haven’t heard, the Yankees lost last night and were eliminated from the playoffs. They managed just three hits off Cy Young Colby Lewis and weren’t hitting for the majority of the series. The pitching was there, the bats just went limp. But anyone who considers the Yankees’ 2010 season a failure is a spoiled idiot. Ask a fan of another team what they would give for a trip the LCS. It was a great ride while it lasted and you can’t win ‘em all. ALCS Offense: Yanks: .201/.300/.370 Rangers: .303/.378/.512 ALCS Pitching: Yanks: 7.44 K/9; 1.79 K/BB; [...]
Do or die
Not much needs to be said about the game tonight: Game 6 and the Yanks trail 3-2 in the series. Obviously this is a must-win game, and I think the Yanks make a statement and score often and early. In the biggest start of his life, Phillip Joseph Hughes will be going against Colby Lewis. If I was a gambling man, I would parlay the Yanks (moneyline) and the over. Just saying. If you haven’t had the proverbial butterflies in your stomach for the past day and a half, you are not a Yankee fan. LET’S GO YANKS!!!
The Kid has done it again
Predictably, I ran my season record to 9-1 and all-time playoff mark to 2-0 after attending yesterday’s win. CC didn’t have his best stuff but he made do and shut the Rangers down, while the bats came alive for seven runs on nine hits. Swish Dog, Cano and C-Grizzle all went yard and every starter except Gardy reached base at least once. It was, of course, a win the team desperately needed and the victory restored faith in Yankeeland (at least until Friday). The bottom line is that if the team continues to play like this nobody can beat them. [...]
