Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit sniffing glue

Not only did I fall to 7-1 on Wednesday, but the Yanks got smoked on Thursday night and now lead the division by a 1/2 game.

Some interesting stats from Thursday:

  • CC went 5 1/3 innings and gave up seven runs on 10 hits with six strikeouts to three walks. The seven ER were his most as a Yankee; he had not allowed that many since 4/16/08 as a member of the Indians.
  • Joba had allowed just five inherited runners to score all season. He let three score on Thursday.
  • Javy hit three batters in a row. The last time that happened (in all of MLB) was on 8/21/04 when the Dodgers’ Jeff Weaver hit three straight Braves. In his defense, he did recover nicely over his final two innings of work.
  • With the setback, the Yankees lost the season series to Tampa Bay for the second time (2005) ever.
  • Lefty starters are now 4-0 over their last six starts against the Yanks (6-0 overall).
  • The Yanks finish out their season with six games against Boston and three against Toronto, while the Rays get Seattle, Baltimore and Kansas City.

The only reassuring fact we have is that when we wake up tomorrow the Yanks will still be in first place. Plus they have Pettitte going tomorrow against Beckett, which is reassuring. Their magic numbers are 3 and 10, and I’d love nothing more than to clinch a playoff spot against the Red Cox.

LET’S GO YANKS!!!
