AJ leaves game with injury UPDATE

AJ Burnett left Saturday’s shit show in the third inning with lacerations on his right hand. Kim Jones reported that he suffered the injury while trying to brace himself after he tripped while running up stairs.

UPDATE: AJ did not trip while going up the stairs, he actually pulled a Kevin Brown. He slammed his hand on a set of double doors and cut his hand on a plastic lineup holder while letting off steam after the second inning. He originally lied to trainers to, I assume, make himself sound like less of an asshole. The good news is that Girardi said he’s optimistic that AJ will make his next start. Stitches were not required for the cuts that AJ described as an inch to an inch and a half on his right hand near his wrist.

Burnett admitted that he was embarrassed and that’s why he lied, but he sought out Girardi after the game and owned up to his lies. He said that he will apologize to his teammates tomorrow.

AJ:

"I’m embarrassed more than anything else."

Girardi:

"Some guys just are better at expressing their frustration than others."

His final line was 2+ innings pitched, four runs on four hits with a strikeout. Dustin Moseley came on in relief and was equally as ineffective, giving up four runs on five hits with three walks and two strikeouts in three innings of relief.
