overRAYted

Robbie Cano went 3-for-4 with two doubles and the go-ahead solo shot in the ninth inning as the Yanks bested the Rays 5-4 to regain their two-game lead in the division. The two two-baggers gave Cano 30 for the season, which ties him with Thurman Munson (229) on the franchise list. During his five-game hitting streak, Cano is 9-for-21 (.429) with seven extra-base hits but just three homers with three RBI. Swish Dog (20) and Tex both went yard as well, and Cano is now tied with Marky Mark for the team lead in dingies (21). It’s the sixth straight [...]

Rays cut it to one game

AUTHOR: | IN: Yankees | COMMENTS: None Yet

The Yanks’ lead in the AL East was trimmed to one measly game — the smallest it’s been since July 3 — after a 3-2 setback to the Rays on Friday night. Phil Hughes pitched very well sans a two-out 2-2 mistake to Matt Joyce in the sixth inning. Philthy gave up just the three runs on four hits with six strikeouts to two walks over six innings, but the offense just wasn’t there. Even Joba turned in a great pitching performance, tossing two innings of perfect relief while fanning three. Girardi: Both these guys threw really well, Hughsie threw [...]

A-ROD HITS HIS 800TH…

AUTHOR: | IN: Game Recap, Popular, Yankees | COMMENTS: None Yet

…RBI as a Yankee. Actually, he notched his 801st RBI (three on the night) in pinstripes, 90th career sac fly and came to bat with the bases loaded three times but failed to get that elusive 600th homer. He also went 1-for-4 with a walk in the Yanks’ wild 11-4 win over the Indians. It’s been great, we’ve been playing good baseball. When I hit (600th home run) nothing’s going to change; we’re in the middle of a pennant race and we’re just trying to play good baseball…I feel good about the way I’m swinging the bat. The big story [...]

Dustin Moseley gets first start since 4/17/09

AUTHOR: | IN: American League, Editorial, Game Preview, Popular, Yankees | COMMENTS: None Yet

In lieu of an injured Andy (Can I) Pettitte, Dustin Moseley will get the nod tonight in the finale of a four-game set with the Indians. His numbers aren’t great against the Indians, but he is 3-0 with a 4.35 ERA in five games — three starts. He has yielded 26 hits in 20 innings with 10 earned runs, 14 strikeouts and four walks for a 1.452 WHIP lifetime against Cleveland — all with the Halos. However, he has never pitched at Progressive Field. In four appearances this season he’s had two clunkers to go with two pretty good outings, [...]

Game 100: total domination, fuggetabout

AUTHOR: | IN: American League, Game Recap, Popular, Yankees | COMMENTS: None Yet

In one of the most boring games of the season the Yanks scalped the Injuns 8-0 behind a stellar outing from AJ (9-8), who went 6 1/3 innings and gave up seven hits with seven strikeouts to three walks to take the win. Burnett, who was 0-4 with a 9.00 ERA in four career starts at Progressive Field coming in, has now thrown 11 1/3 scoreless innings since his Kevin Brown incident. His July ERA is now 2.00…and that includes the Rays debacle. The game, which saw a 42-minute rain delay, was the Yanks’ ninth shutout of the season, good [...]

Aaaaaand we’re back

AUTHOR: | IN: Editorial, News, Popular, Yankees | COMMENTS: None Yet

Did you miss me while I was gone? No?!?!?!? Good, I didn’t miss you either and I HATE YOU!!! I’m sorry, I don’t know what I was thinking. I was just kidding. Let’s never fight again. Anywho, it seems like the big story while I was gone was how Joba was removed from the eighth-inning role. Apparently he grunted and farted his way right out of the set-up man position but is in no danger of being sent to the minors. According to Joel Sherman, Joba won’t be sent down for two reasons A) the Yanks feel it would be [...]

Yanks Go Yard is closed, moose out front should have told you

AUTHOR: | IN: Announcements, Popular, Yankees | COMMENTS: None Yet

I apologize in advance but I will not be around until midway through the Indians series (Tuesday night) as I am heading down the shore for a few days with limited to no internet access. While I may not have as many laughs and crazy hi-jinx as those irreverent Griswolds do, I can assure you I will be drunker. However, I will return greater and more powerful than you could ever imagine. Until then, keep the Yanks in your thoughts and prayers.

Dan Haren = Cliff Lee part II

AUTHOR: | IN: American League, Editorial, News, Popular, Yankees | COMMENTS: None Yet

According to a Jayson Stark and a “source familiar with the situation“, the Yanks and D’Bags were “never close” on a deal that would have sent Dan Haren to the Bronx. Take it away Jayson Stark and your mysterious source: The two teams did swap names Friday, but the Yankees rejected a Diamondbacks proposal that would have sent Joba Chamberlain, highly regarded pitching prospect Ivan Nova and two other prospects to Arizona for Haren. First of all, why would the Yanks reject such a trade? They get rid of the struggling Joba and three other prospects for one of the [...]

1,000 but not 600…Dan Haren — a Yankee?

AUTHOR: | IN: Game Recap, News, Popular, Yankees | COMMENTS: None Yet

The Yanks beat the Royals 7-1, and while A-Rod didn’t belt home run number 600 Jorge Posada did drive in RBIs 1,000 and 1,001! Not quite a milestone of the same caliber, but a milestone nevertheless. With the RBIs he moved into 13th place on the franchise’s all-time list. He’s been hot recently and came into the game hitting .333/.429/.833 since the All-Star break. Girardi: That’s quite an accomplishment, 1000 RBI. Especially from behind the plate, which is such a grueling position. Georgie went 2-for-3, drove in the aforementioned two runs and scored, while Gardy also had two hits, two [...]

Swish scratched

AUTHOR: | IN: American League, Game Preview, Popular, Yankees | COMMENTS: None Yet

Swish Dog was removed from the lineup just over an hour or so before first pitch due to a sore Achilles, and will be replaced by New CC in right. Here is the new lineup: Gardy LF Jeet SS Tex 1B A-Rod 3B Cano 2B Georgie DH Grandy CF Frankie C New CC RF Kevin Brown AJ Burnett vs. Brian Bannister. In other injury news, David DeJesus will miss the remainder of the year with a torn ligament in his right thumb. DeJesus, who injured the thumb crashing into the wall while trying to track down what turned out to [...]
