Best Yankees teams of the oughts
As the decade nears a close, I thought I’d rank my favorite Yankees teams of the 2000s. 1. 2000 Yankees: 87-74; won the World Series, 4-1, against the Mets. It was the first title of the 2000′s and the last one for a long time for the Yanks. Plus, who could forget the whole Clemens/Piazza fiasco, Jeter’s All-Star game MVP and WS MVP, Jim Leyritz’ last season in the majors and many other highlights? But anytime I think of this team, all that comes to mind is Benny Agbayani’s quote prior to the Subway Series, “We’ll win it in [...]
Happy Holidays
Merry Chrsitmas and Happy Holidays everybody…I hope next offseason and Christmas is as joyous as this one’s been
Yanks acquire Vazquez
The Yankees have brought Javy Vazquez (back) to the Bronx in exchange for Melky Cabrera, Mike Dunn and Arodys Vizcaino. The Yanks will also get lefty reliever Boone Logan in the deal. I’m all for bolstering up the pitching staff, and I think this was a good move, but remember what happened in Game 7 of the 2004 ALCS with Vazquez on the bump…Plus, what will Cano think about his best friend on the team leaving? Also: The Yanks signed catcher Mike Rivera to a minor league deal. NYY was dealt a luxury tax of $25.69 million. The good news: it’s [...]
Johnny Damon has got some balls
“I am going to start looking around. Teams are getting better and there are teams interested,” Damon told The Post yesterday. “I can’t wait forever and I am sure [the Yankees] are trying to figure things out. I have to be ready.” Well, I guess the honeymoon is officially over. As I have said numerous times before, LET THAT ASSHOLE-LICKER GO!!!! I’ll never forget his contributions to the Yanks over the past four seasons (especially the whole World Series thing) and I wish him well, but this is how I will always remember Johnny Damon: I would love it if Damon [...]
Yanks making moves
The Yankees have been simmering up the hot stove the past couple of days, here are some links to all you need to know about the goings-on of the Bronx Bombers: Wang not tender. The Yankees have decided not to tender a contract to Chien-Ming Wang, making him a free agent. I can see why they did it, but I’m sad to see the sinkerballer (most likely) go. He was a solid ace for a couple of years, but running the bases that one time in Houston did him in. I hope he has a long and fruitful career, just not for [...]
Yanks sign Pettitte
The Yankees and lefty Andy Pettitte agreed today on a one-year deal worth $11.75 million. Granted he’s 37 years old, but that seems like a bargain for a guy who was the winning pitcher when the team clinched the AL East, ALDS, ALCS and WS this past year. Plus, he’s got one of the dirtiest pick-off moves of all time. I’m glad they made this deal, it’ll be great seeing Andy in pinstripes. I hope he goes out with number 28. So the front half of the Yanks’ rotation in 2010 will be: CC, AJ and Pettitte. Wow. Imagine if they get [...]
Yanks pull off three-team trade, land Granderson
Pending physicals, the Yankees have apparently agreed to a three-team trade todaywith Arizona and the Tigers. They filled the void in center by acquiring Curtis Granderson, but parted ways with some components of the bullpen and an OF prospect. Here is a view of what each team got: The Yanks: CF Curtis Granderson D-Bags: RHP Edwin Jackson and Ian Kennedy Detroit: LHP Phil Coke, CF Austin Jackson, RHP Max Scherzer, LHP Dan Schlereth I guess that’s good they got a center fielder, but they gave up a lot for just one player. Ian Kennedy (though mired by an aneurysm for [...]
Yanks send Bruney to Nats
The Yankees sent Brian Bruney to the Nationals in exchange for a player to be named later today. In an effort to trim payroll, the move was necessary. But Bruney was solid when healthy and had heart but, as Joe Morgan would say, he just wasn’t consistent. I’ll never forget BB for calling out and standing up to K-Rod before the Luis Castillo game. Which brings an interesting point, now that Bruney has gone the route of Nick Johnson, Wil Nieves and Tyler Clippard, and is playing on the Nats, he will have to face K-Rod more. That should be interesting. [...]
Yanks would be foolish to go after Halladay
The Yankees brass started their offseason meetings in Tampa on Wednesday, and one of the biggest questions they’ll face is whether or not to go after Toronto ace Roy Halladay. Despite the fact that he is a bona fide Yankee killer, I do not feel the Yanks should make a move for him. First of all it would mean sacrificing young talent. The Blew Jays want (at least) an MLB-ready arm and a top hitting prospect in return for Roy. That’s not so bad. But when you think about it, that means either Joba or Phil Hughes along with [...]
