Yankees fans have something else to cheer about following the team’s six-game triumph in the Fall Classic: Derek Jeter and Mark Teixeira have earned Gold Gloves for their defensive work. It’s both players’ first GG since 2006.
Tex has been a solid pickup (understatement of the century) since last season’s hot stove, with his AL-leading 39 homers and great defensive work this past season. He made only four errors in 1,275 chances.
Following an offseason that saw him get criticized to no end, Jeet turned that into motivation and had one of his best defensive years. At age 35, nevertheless. Captain made only eight errors in 2009, the fewest in any of his full seasons, any needs only one more GG to tie the franchise mark of five set by Mattingly and a few others.
Congrats to Jeter and Teixeira, and let’s hope this is the first in the line of many World Series and Gold Gloves from both players.
CHAMPIONS…OF THE WORLD!!!!
